Submission of thesis for examination
After the internal defence, the student’s dissertation should be refined and be ready for external examination.
The Division Head will nominate one internal examiner and two external examiners for the thesis examination. External examiners are overseas academics and PhD holders.
The nomination for external examiners will be submitted to the Director (Research & PhD programme) for appraisal and approval. This is to ensure that the nominated external examiners are independent and impartial. More importantly, they must be well-established academics in their field of research.
The examiners are given 2 months to examine the dissertation. Students will be required to make amendments to their dissertation if recommended by the examiners. Students will be given up to 3 months for minor amendments and 6 months for major amendments.
The amended thesis will be sent for re-examination, and when it is satisfactory, a final oral examination will be arranged.
